Govt Avoiding Discussion on China

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the state to avoid a debate on controversial issues related to China.

Party leader SS Ahluwalia said the BJP would raise the issue of China's plans to build a dam across the river Brahmaputra in Tibet, its investment in energy projects in Pakistan administered Kashmir and its reluctance to work a link road in Ladakh Demchok area.

"The government is not ready to talk about China. They can only lobby for debate," he said.

The sources said that some of these issues were raised at the first meeting of the Business Advisory Council for the Rajya Sabha during the current session of parliament but the government still had not agreed a time for discussion.

According to reports Monday to work on a road link Demchok, on the Indian side of Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the region of Ladakh in Leh was stopped after objections from the Chinese army. Demchok is about 300 km southeast of Leh.
